It celebrated to recognize the achievements and role of the Indian Navy in the country. Every year different themes chosen to celebrate Navy Day.

History :

The day named as Navy day because on this day operation Trident Operation launched against Pakistan during the Indo-Pakistan War in 1971.

In the year 1971 during the Indian Pakistan war, Pakistan launched an offensive on the Indian airbase on December 3 in the evening. Indian Navy in response to their attack dispatched 3 missile boats towards Karachi at maximum speed. The name of the three missile boats is Nirghat, Veer, and Nipat. During the operation Trident, the Indian Navy sank 4 Pakistani vessels that includes PNS, Khaibar resulting death of hundreds of Pakistani Navy personnel. Navy personnel who sacrificed their lives during this war also remembered on this day.

Indian Navy Role :

The first prime minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru rightly said that to be sure on land we must be supreme at sea. A strong navy is an important element of every Maritime Nation.

Indian Navy known to a naval branch of the Indian Armed forces led by the President of India as commander-in-Chief. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj known as the Maratha Emperor considered the father of the Indian Navy.

The primary aim of the Navy is to safeguard the nation’s maritime. At the time of natural calamities such as blood cyclone earthquakes And etc every time, the Indian Navy called upon for rescue and relief operations.

Celebrations :

Various events take place during Navy week. The finale takes place on December 4 which celebrated as Indian Navy Day. On this day warships and aircraft of the Indian Navy opened so that school students can visit and have knowledge about it.

The events like Military Photo Exhibition and other events such as blood donation camps are also held. It is celebrated using themes like Safe Seas and Secure Coasts for a Strong Nation.
