Greek Salad Recipe

Are you looking for a salad that is healthy and will help you in shredding some extra pounds? Do you want to impress your guests with a great salad? Then, you are in the right place. I will be sharing the Greek Salad Recipe, also known as Xoriatiki.

This salad is an absolute delight, both to your eyes and tastebuds. Most importantly, it is filled with a ton of vitamins and minerals, thus contributing to your overall health. To elaborate, this dish supplies Vitamin A, Vitamin C, iron, magnesium, potassium, etc. It is a great source of antioxidants and phytonutrients which prevent the risk of serious problems like heart strokes. Also, it is absolutely low on calories, thus making it the best meal in your weight-loss journey.

Here’s what you need to prepare this delicacy-

  1. Two cups of fresh lettuce. Ensure that you pick different varieties of lettuce leaves such as iceberg lettuce, rocket lettuce, romaine lettuce, and lollo rosso lettuce for different texture and crunch.
  2. Two ripe, red and tangy tomatoes
  3. One medium-sized and fresh cucumber
  4. Three Spring Onions
  5. One medium-sized red onion
  6. A handful of pickled black olives.
  7. Vinegar or lemon juice
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Freshly crushed pepper
  10. Oregano
  11. Extra-Virgin olive oil
  12. 100 grams of Feta Cheese

Now, let’s take a look at the simple Greek salad-recipe which will be ready in five minutes and will be a zero mess and trouble on all your busy days

First, take a large mixing bowl. Now, thoroughly wash all the lettuce leaves in ice-cold water and remove all the extra water and dry off the moisture. Then, tear them into small pieces and they should go straight into your mixing bowl.

Second, take one fresh cucumber and cut it vertically into two halves. Now, remove the seeds to avoid any bitterness in your salad. Then, roughly chop the cucumber into small pieces or like wedges, by holding the knife slantly. Cucumber skin is a great source of Vitamin K, so it is recommended to consume it with the skin unless you hate it absolutely. Add these pieces to the mixing bowl.

Third, take 2 ripe tomatoes and roughly chop them just like the cucumber and these pieces also go into your mixing bowl.

Fourth, take three spring onions and slice them into thin pieces. Then put them into the mixing bowl.

Fifth, finely chop one medium-sized red onion and put it straight into the mixing bowl. A quick hack for all those struggling with eye burn caused due to chopping onion- deep freeze the onion for half an hour before chopping and avoid the burn.

Sixth now comes a simple seasoning. For this add in some salt as per your taste. Then add one teaspoon of freshly crushed pepper and one teaspoon of oregano to give it a good spice. Then, pour in about two or three tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil. Finally, add in two teaspoons of white vinegar for an acidic twist. You can replace white vinegar with a dash of lemon juice also, as per your preference.

Finally, give all the contents in your mixing bowl a good mix and spread that glossy salad on your serving plate. To add in more color and flavor, top it with a handful, i.e about ten or fifteen pickled black olives. And then complete it by garnishing the dish with 100 grams of soft and salty feta cheese.

And yes, your plate full of goodness and health is ready in no time. It can serve as a great weekday lunch or dinner if you are trying to be health-conscious. Also, impress your guests at dinner by serving them this great salad and trust me they will forget the main course because this is finger-licking good.

So this was the mouth watering Greek salad-recipe.
